Language Leaders

At John Wood School & Nursery, we serve a diverse community and have a large number of families whose first language is not English. In order to better communicate with these families and help support them with understanding their children’s learning needs, we are building a supportive group of parent and staff ‘Language Leaders’.

Our aim is to build up supportive groups within our wider school community who share a common language. Our Language Leader (a native speaker in a particular language) will work with the school to organise parent workshops and events so that they can translate the information to parents in their first language.

We are very lucky to have a number of staff members who are native speakers in languages other than English too. They will work in conjunction with our Language Leader parents to help organise and deliver workshops, help with any admin queries that you might have, answer questions about your child’s learning and essentially act as a translator.
